And German is the second most used language (after English) in the scientific community. German: language of business. Germany is the UK’s biggest export market outside the US. German: language of culture … of poetry, literature, music, architecture and film. So as well as being fun, and giving you a sense of real achievement, learning to communicate fluently in German can open out many career opportunities to you. Bilborough Sixth Form College offers lessons to build your fluency and confidence, as well as weekly one-to-one conversational practice with our German assistant. We like to think our students are not only learning a language, but acquiring a life-long skill. Many of our students go on to study German at university, either as single honours or alongside another subject. A language combines well with other studies – for example many Science-related degree courses now offer students the opportunity to work in labs overseas. Similarly, some Law courses allow students to take options in European law and pursue placements abroad. Employers will very often value your skills as a former language student.
