German
Assessment
Your first year provides a transition from GCSE, improving your fluency and confidence in German. Topics include ‘Families and Citizenship’, ‘Youth Trends and Personal Identity’, ‘Education and Employment Opportunities’, ‘Regional Culture and Heritage’ and ‘Media, Art, Film and Music’. In lessons we’ll practise listening, reading, speaking and writing German and we’ll cover a wide base of grammar too. As well as four and a half hours of formal teaching a week you will have 20 minutes with our German assistant to help boost your confidence in speaking German. You’ll also be invited on our annual German Exchange to Berlin. The week will include a day in a German school with your exchange partner, a three-day work experience placement in a local nursery or primary school, sightseeing, and various other activities with your host family or other Bilborough College students. The second year builds on your skills and focuses on weightier themes. Topics include ‘Migration and Integration’, ‘Cultural Identity and Marginalisation’, ‘Cultural Enrichment and Celebrating Difference’ and ‘Discrimination and Diversity’. We also look at the history of Germany from 1989 and study some film and literature.
