The Henslow and Evolution School

Every student has an Education, Health and Care Plan at admission.

The school admits pupils aged 5–18 who have, or are being assessed for, an EHCP or IDP; typical needs include autism and moderate-to-severe learning difficulties.

The DSL requests safeguarding records from the student’s previous placement within five days of admission.

The school emphasizes emotional wellbeing, communication, life skills and preparation for pupils' futures.

The vocational curriculum includes a BTEC in Vocational Studies with bespoke units across catering, construction, horticulture and sport.

Additional vocational offerings include Child Development, Home Cooking, Outdoor Education, Land Based Studies, BTEC Science and Arts Award.

Learners are taught in small groups capped at four to five pupils.

Key Stage 3 learners receive support to consider future education and employment and select three accredited option pathways.

The pathway includes enrichment and life-skills activities intended to develop confidence, independence, resilience, and preparation for adulthood.

The school develops understanding of British Values, especially respect and tolerance, alongside social, moral, spiritual and cultural awareness.

Students can gain qualifications ranging from Entry Level to Level 2, including Functional Skills and ASDAN vocational qualifications.

The school is registered for students through age 18 and may allow suitable students to continue until Year 12 or 13.

We would always hope to transition students to appropriate further education settings, training such as apprenticeships or employment by the end of Key Stage 4. However, we understand some of our students may need longer to attain qualifications or that Longridge is the most suitable setting for them to continue their education until the end of Year 12 or 13.”

Referrals are accepted throughout the academic year.

Admission is by referral for a placement, including referrals through local authorities or parents with local-authority agreement.

The school aims to transition students to further education, apprenticeships or employment by the end of Key Stage 4.
