The curriculum develops safety, health, relationships, communication, emotional wellbeing and preparation for adulthood.

“Our RHSE curriculum helps pupils to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence they need to stay safe, healthy and happy. Pupils learn about friendships, family relationships, personal safety, consent, communication, physical and emotional wellbeing, online safety, growing up and preparing for adulthood.”

Pupils are continually supervised by qualified, skilled staff who undergo DBS checks.

The music provision includes specialist teaching, instrumental learning, ensemble performance, choirs, and a school band.

We have 2 choirs and a Broomfield Band who regular perform in front of familiar and unfamiliar audiences, a dance group who performed in London.”

The provision has capacity for up to 80 students.

Post-16 pathways include home-focused learning designed to build practical skills and independence for adult life.

A bursary is available to help students aged 16–19 in full-time education with course-related costs, including clothing, books, equipment, transport, and lunch.

Admission requires an Education Health Care Plan and is managed through the local authority rather than directly by the school.

Families must discuss a placement with their Casework Officer and hold an Annual Review before the authority consults suitable schools.

“To request a place at South SILC, you need to discuss this with your Casework Officer and hold an Annual Review. The Authority will then consult with schools (including ourselves) if they are able to meet your child's needs through all the provisions identified within their Statement or Education Health Care Plan. Admissions are not dealt with directly by school.”

The school reports that all pupils remain in education or enter employment after Key Stage 4.

Year 9, Year 11 and Post-16 students receive individual next-step discussions with a careers adviser, involving their families.
