Course summary

Why this course? Throughout this course we will be studying a combination of both medieval and modern history to gain a wider and deeper understanding of the world today. There are elements of British, American, European, Middle Eastern, etc. perspectives throughout the course so you’re able to study areas of history you may never of discovered before. We will be studying a number of different key historical events through multiple perspectives and types of History, e.g. political, social, economic. The aim is to broaden your understanding of how the medieval and modern world have, and continue, to shape the struggles of the 21st Century. Student profile A Level History is a course for those who have a strong interest in history and are easily able to answer essay questions which relate to different topics throughout history. Students will be expected to be organised and able to learn independently. They will also have to revise regularly to ensure their understanding of content and practising of historical skills, especially source analysis and evaluation. Progression The skills you gain whilst undertaking the study of history will enable you to succeed in a large number of career paths. For example, you will develop your ability to analyse and assess a range of sources and the evidence they provide in order to evaluate their value. You will also have the opportunity to develop your independent research skills, e.g. when choosing and writing on a topic of your choice, which will be invaluable if choosing to continue your education after Sixth Form.
