Course summary

IBCP = 2 x IBCP diploma subjects + 1 x vocational subject Why this course? The study of the texts produced in a language is central to an active engagement with language and culture and, by extension, to how we see and understand the world in which we live. A key aim of the course is to encourage students to explore and question the meaning generated by language and texts. Helping students to focus closely on the language of the texts they study and to become aware of the role of each text’s wider context in shaping its meaning is central to the course. In addition, students will develop skills of textual analysis and the understanding that texts, both literary and non-literary, can be seen as autonomous yet as products of the culture, society and historical period from which they originate. Student profile The aim of all IB programmes is to develop internationally minded people who, recognizing their common humanity and shared guardianship of the planet, help to create a better and more peaceful world. Students should be curious about the world in which they live and interested in making relevant links. Progression IB English Language and Literature is a good pathway to many different options. It can help students access college and university courses and provides a good foundation for both work and for apprenticeships.
