Course summary

Who is the course for? If you want a deeper insight into how film works in the UK and around the world and how audiences are asked/provoked to respond and think when watching films then this course is for you. It will also offer you the opportunity to write and produce your own films. What you'll learn: Film studies will offer a wide variety of films in order to broaden knowledge and understanding of film and the range of responses films can generate. The specification offers opportunities to study mainstream American films from the past and the present as well as a range of recent and contemporary British films, American independent films and global films, both non-English language and English language. The historical range of film represented in those films is extended by the study of silent film and significant film movements so that learners can gain a sense of the development of film from its early years to its still emerging digital future. Studies in documentary, experimental and short films add to the breadth of the learning experience. What subjects this goes well with: Media Studies, Photography, Art, English Literature, Sociology, Psychology How you'll learn: Classroom based and on location What you can do next: You could progress to a Film studies or related degree and specialise in Production roles including director, producer, editor etc, marketing, TV/radio/advertising or public relations. Apprenticeship opportunities exist in a number of production companies. You will have acquired transferable skills from your studies, including: analysis, visual communication, problem solving, communication, presentation and organisational skills as well as technical knowledge, such as shooting film on Canon Mark 3 or Panasonic GH5 DSLR cameras and editing on Final Cut Pro that is useful in a range of careers.
