Computer Science qualifications will value computational thinking, helping students to develop the skills to solve problems, design systems and understand the power and limits of human and machine intelligence. Component 01 - Computer Systems The characteristics of contemporary processors, input, output and storage devices • Software and software development • Exchanging data • Data types, data structures and algorithms • Legal, moral, cultural and ethical issues Component 02 - Algorithms and Problem solving • Elements of computational thinking • Problem solving and programming • Algorithms Component 03 - Programming Project The learner will choose a computing problem to work through according to the guidance in the specification. • Analysis of the problem • Design of the solution • Developing the solution • Evaluation Students can use a programming language of their choice and may choose to use HTML/CSS, C+, JavaScript, Python, SQL and Java. Year 12 and Year 13 students are taught together. This academic qualification helps develop abilities and fundamental computing knowledge. It acts as a superb stepping-stone into employment or progression to Further or Higher Education. The qualification is particularly helpful to those wishing to work in roles where like data analysis, computer programming, software development or database management.
