Course summary
Sociology is the study of the society in which we live. It examines how we are influenced and shaped through being members of groups and organizations. It focuses on the way we make society what it is and the way society makes us what we are. What will I study during the course? Throughout the course, you will be introduced to many theories, studies, and concepts. You will learn about various social processes (e.g. socialization), social institutions (e.g. the family), and social issues (e.g. crime and deviance). You will learn how to integrate your understanding of core sociological themes (e.g. socialization, culture and identity, power and stratification) into the topics studied at AS and A levels. Year 1 is divided into two units: Families and Households and Education and research methods. In Year 2 you will also learn about Beliefs in Society and Crime and Deviance.
