Why choose BTEC science, rather than A level? We offer students the chance to study science at level 3 with a grade 5,4 in the sciences, and a grade 4 in English and maths – lower than the grade 6 in sciences and maths needed for the A level sciences. The BTEC level 3 Extended Certificate counts as one of your three A level subjects and is a two year course. It is equivalent to one A level and is primarily aimed at students who would like to continue to study some science to support their other options. Equivalent to 1 A-Level, this course will suit you if you are prepared to develop good practical skills by getting involved in lessons. You also need to be organised and able to listen carefully to advice. Most importantly, you should have a genuine interest in science as it requires a high degree of self-motivation. Progression Students who successfully complete this course can study for degrees in a range of careers, depending on their other subjects. Educational Visits Students on the Subsidiary Diploma Applied Science course have visited Nottingham University for a talk on eco homes as well as local pharmaceutical firm Juniper and Dri-Pak, who manufacture a range of traditional cleaning products.
