Course summary

Department Aims: -To support every student to achieve to her full potential in Maths -To ensure that the curriculum objectives closely matched to each individual student -To ensure that students find Maths stimulating and challenging -To provide a robust foundation for understanding how Mathematics proliferates the world we live in. A level Maths is a two year course that is broken into Pure and Applied Maths; Pure Mathematics extends the work on Number, Algebra, Ratio and Proportion and Geometry and their applications as well as covering Calculus. It is worth two thirds of the course. The remaining third of the course will be split equally between Statistics and Mechanics: The Statistics content involves data analysis and will complement Psychology, Biology, Geography and Economics. The Mechanics content involves the study of motion and will apply Mathematics to problems in the real world and relate well to Physics and Engineering.
