Course summary

Psychology is the study of the human mind and behaviour. Students will be expected to carry out the following during the course: • demonstrate knowledge and understanding of psychological concepts, theories, research studies, research methods and ethical issues in relation to the specified Paper 1 content • apply psychological knowledge and understanding of the specified Paper 1 content in a range of contexts • analyse, interpret and evaluate psychological concepts, theories, research studies and research methods in relation to the specified Paper 1 content • evaluate therapies and treatments including in terms of their appropriateness and effectiveness Knowledge and understanding of research methods, practical research skills and mathematical skills will be assessed in Paper 1. These skills should be developed through ethical practical research activities, involving: • designing research • conducting research • analysing and interpreting data There are three Units for A Level Psychology: • Unit 1: Social Influence, Memory, Attachment, Psychopathology (Abnormality) • Unit 2: Approaches in Psychology, Biopsychology, Research methods • Unit 3: Issues and debates in Psychology and one choice from each of option 1, 2, and 3: • Option 1: Relationships OR Gender OR Cognition • Option 2: Schizophrenia OR Eating behaviour OR Stress • Option 3: Aggression OR Forensic Psychology OR Addiction A Level Psychology is accepted by Universities as an excellent foundation for a wide range of degree courses. It is also an asset in Health and Welfare, Law, Teaching, Marketing, Human Resources, General Management, the Police and Media.
