Course summary

The Sociology curriculum helps students to learn about the changes that are taking place within key institutions in society. Sociology develops students’ cultural capital as it promotes engagement with a wide range of issues that go beyond a student’s day-to-day experiences. Current affairs on family, crime and education are regularly discussed and debated on during lessons. Students foster critical and reflective thinking and gain a respect for social diversity. Students will study five key areas of society: • Education • Families and Households • Stratification • Crime and Deviance • Research and Theoretical perspectives
