Assessment

Components: Two examination papers (40% each) − Shakespeare and Poetry: Shakespeare's tragedy 'Othello', Fitzgerald's 'The Great Gatsby' and an anthology of poems from pre-1900. There will also be a comparison of two unseen poems. − Post 1945 Literature: (play) 'A Streetcar Named Desire' by Tennessee Williams; (novel) 'The Handmaid's Tale' by Margaret Atwood; (Poetry) 'Skirrid Hill' by Owen Sheers. There will also be an unseen section of the exam. An Independent Critical Study (20%) − Comparative critical study of two texts, at least one of which must have been written pre-1900.
