This course will provide you with the knowledge, skills, and practical ability to confidently progress on to our Level 3 programmes or to kickstart a hands-on career in the animal care industry. Over the course of the year, you will study a range of interesting topics including animal biology, welfare, animal health, and behaviour. Our courses have a strong emphasis on developing practical animal handling skills to ensure you become confident in working with a range of species commonly encountered in the industry. Alongside your course, you will also complete relevant work experience in the animal sector which helps you prepare for your next steps. You will learn •Practical animal health skills •The factors impacting animal welfare •Animal biology and health •Animal feeding •Animal behavior •Safe handling and restraint techniques •Accommodation design and maintenance
You will need at least four GCSEs at grade 3 and above (D and above) including math's, English or science and/or a Level 1 Diploma in Animal Care or Land-Based Studies at a Pass. Before you start your course, if you are aged between 16 and 18 years, you will be required to attend a fun and practical two-day preparation workshop where you will meet your tutors and other students on your course.
