Assessment
The EPQ is a standalone qualification, and it is graded A* - E, carrying a maximum of 28 UCAS points There are no examinations – students produce a ‘project’, usually a 5000-word essay, although you might opt for an art exhibition or a stage production (drama or dance). You are assessed on how you produce (or ‘realize’) the product – all EPQs must include a detailed production log tracking the decision-making process. The EPQ is marked by your supervisor and moderated by the examination board. Work on the EPQ will begin in the Summer 2 term. You should complete a research proposal in Autumn 1 of Year 13, when you will begin researching your topic. You will be able to decide on a final title and start drafting your essay (or your chosen project format) in Spring 2. You will deliver a final presentation over the Easter half-term, and complete all project work by the end of April, approximately two weeks before the summer public examination period begins.
