WHO IS THIS COURSE FOR? This course is for students who have a passion for Mathematics and a keen interest in developing their mathematical skills. This course is suitable for anyone who is considering a career in the Sciences, Engineering, Computing, Finance and Medicine. A level Mathematics will open more doors than many other subjects. This course will stimulate interest and enthusiasm needed for further study whilst at the same time, giving students a well-developed sense of the use of mathematical techniques in the real world. The course will develop problem-solving skills, enable students to apply mathematics and recognize its significance in other areas. You will study a mixture of Pure Mathematics, Mechanics and Statistics. In Pure Mathematics, the main areas studied are algebra, differential and integral calculus, trigonometry and co-ordinate geometry. In Mechanics, Newton’s Laws of Motion and Projectiles are studied together with the laws of friction, conservation of energy and momentum. In Statistics, students learn to analyze data, selecting and using mathematical models to describe a statistical event. You will also be required to interpret and communicate results in a form relevant to the original problem. WHERE NEXT - POSSIBLE CAREER PROGRESSION? An A Level in Mathematics can lead to many Science and Engineering degree courses as well as Computing, Medicine, Business Studies courses and many more. Many degree courses in Science, Engineering and Economics require Mathematics A Level, and others prefer you to have it. Students with Mathematics degrees are highly respected, and Mathematics graduates go into careers in just about everything from accountancy to insurance, computing to telecoms and business support to law.
