The Media Make-up Artistry Technical Diploma Level 3 is aimed at students who wish to pursue a career as an employed or self-employed make-up artist, providing hair and make-up services in the media, theatre, performing arts, fashion and photographic industries. Make-up counters/ make-up studios/ photography studios are a great way to build your knowledge on different skin types, face shapes and ethnicities. Also, the diverse clientele you receive will help you build on your people skills and customer service skills which is essential as a make-up artist. The Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Media Make-up Artistry qualification covers a very wide range of skills and knowledge required for working in the media make-up industry. There are compulsory areas: • Working in the film, TV and theatre industry •Create hair and make-up looks •Media makeup creative hair design • Fashion and photographic make-up • The creation and presentation of a look book and industry portfolio • Apply body art • Camouflage make-up Optional areas include: • Cutting and styling techniques for performers • Avant guard hair and make-up • The evolution of cosmetics and retail • Specialist bridal hair and make-up • Media Make-up blogging • Specialist bridal hair and make-up • Media make-up blogging
Study programme 16-18 yrs. ONLY This course is the year 1 of the study programme depending on your GCSE results If you did not achieve a grade 4 GCSE in English and maths, you will need to complete either GCSE or Functional Skills at the appropriate level. The level you will complete is based on your GCSE grades or previous achievement at functional skills. You will need to bring proof of your grades in induction either the statement of achievement or your certificates. Current and continued work experience in a make-up/theatre industry, completion of level 2 Make up Artistry and successful interview. Due to the externally set and externally marked exam an initial assessment in English of level 1 or GCSE grade 3 in English Language or above, or functional skills of level 1 or above.
o achieve the Level 3 Advanced Technical Diploma in Media Make-up Artistry you must successfully complete the mandatory assessment components these are: •Theory exam •Synoptic assignment (practical assessment) You will need make-up equipment and the cost is approx. £700 (subject to change) which includes a uniform. The equipment is ordered through the college at the time of enrolment, you may make an application to the learner support fund for help towards the cost and this award is subject to your individual circumstances. If you are not eligible for learning support fund you will be liable for the full cost of the equipment. Uniform in the salons is compulsory and this consists of the tunic top and trousers supplied in your equipment, you must supply yourself, plain black shoe/ boots with a closed in toe and heel (strictly no trainers). This course includes tutorials, mandatory work experience and workshops to add to your learning experience. Our main focus at South and City College is to ensure all of our learners gain employer engagement. Industry professionals such as Neil Gordon and companies such as Kryolan, have come into our studios to deliver workshops, giving a taste of their expertise and knowledge. Additionally, opportunities to gain work experience within industry throughout the year is a priority. Previous students have managed to gain employment within theatres working for companies such as the royal ballet. Your course also includes tutorial, mandatory work experience and workshops.
