Art and Design (Fine Art)

Course summary

This is a subject offer that extends and builds on the KS4 curriculum, students can take the fine art A Level regardless of their creative GCSE choice. This course further nurtures students in developing their critical and technical abilities and continues to embed ideals based in exploration and risk taking to support students in becoming confident critical and creative practitioners. The focus on the seven formal elements continues but delves deeper into understanding how all creative practice, from painting to set design to fashion is all constructed using the formal elements to communicate ideas and manipulate viewer response. The broad foundation built through KS3 and 4 supports students when starting this course, but the focus is to now deepen knowledge through material investigations. To fully support reflective learners and embed the need for criticality in their practice, in-depth critical analysis becomes an integral aspect of this course.
