Course summary

This is a two year full-time course made up of BTEC Applied Law, BTEC Applied Psychology and WJEC Criminology. It is equivalent to three A levels and provides the basis of an excellent route for learners to pursue a career in the legal profession or criminal justice system. By choosing to study this course you will develop an understanding of why people commit crime, whether nature or nuture influences people's choices, what happens during a criminal investigation and the process involved when a person has been arrested and taken to court. On this course you will study a variety of topics including understanding crime and deviance. You will focus on the impact that criminal behaviour has on society and explore how criminal behaviour can be explained. Whilst studying law you will gain an understanding of the institutions that govern the UK, how the courts implement justice and you will gain the skill of “thinking like a lawyer”. The Psychology part of the course introduces to you the study of minds and behaviour. An understanding of human behaviour is fundamental to many jobs in society and the study of psychology at degree level.
