Why Study Sport? The BTEC in Sport provides you with an understanding of the essential skills needed to build a career in the sport and exercise sector. The qualification will give you insight into the various routes you can take, plus help you progress to employment or further education. The course can be adapted to meet your abilities and aspirations, focusing on your areas of interest such as sports coaching, leadership and sports psychology. What Topics Will I Study? BTEC Level 3 in Sport is equivalent to one A level. You will have to cover four units, three of which are mandatory and two are external assessed, therefore exam based. Mandatory units: - Anatomy and Physiology (exam) - Fitness Training and Programming for Health, Sport and Well-being (exam) - Professional Development in Sports for Industry - Then one of the following optional units: - Sports leadership - Application of fitness testing - Sports Psychology - Practical sports performance What Careers or Higher Education Follow from this Subject? From BTEC Sport courses there are many routes either into employment or higher education. Employment opportunities include working within the sport and leisure industry, sport retail sector, PE teacher, working within the school sports partnership, sport management, sport coaching, sports massage, police officer, fire service and other public services, sports marketing, development of sport within the community.

Assessment

The course has two externally assessed units which are assessed in two ways. Firstly, Anatomy and Physiology which is a formal exam; Secondly, Fitness training and programming for health, sport and well-being, where prior to the exam you are given a case study to develop in controlled conditions, you must prepare four pages of A4 notes that you can take into the exam. Then on the exam day you are given a series of questions and scenarios to answer in full exam conditions. The rest of the units are all coursework based and internal assessed these units are practical and theoretical. Power Point presentations, self-assessment, teacher assessment and video presentations can be used to assess learners. Although learners and not assessed on their practical achievement, their knowledge of rules, understanding of game play and their analysis techniques will be recognized and credited.
