Course summary
This two-year course is equivalent to 3 A Levels and will give you an in-depth knowledge of the travel and tourism industry, one of the most important contributors to the UK economy and an exciting industry to work in. You will investigate a wide range of topics designed to add to your developing knowledge of the industry and reflect your own career aspirations. You may visit the World Travel Market, take part in British Airways workshops and have work experience opportunities. You will develop practical skills and essential know-how for the rapidly expanding travel and tourism industry through a combination of lectures, workshops, personal research and assignments. You will develop general and specialist management skills, communication and presentation skills. Core subjects will provide you with a general understanding of the industry, and a large number of specialist units are focused on developing specific skills and knowledge of the industry. You will study core skills: •Management skills •Communication and presentation skills •Investigating travel and tourism •The business of travel and tourism •The UK as a destination •Customer service. You will also study specialist units such as: •Long haul travel •Marketing travel and tourism products and services •Hospitality operations in travel and tourism •Airfares and ticketing. This course consists of the 90-credit Diploma in Year 1 followed by the Extended Diploma in Year 2.
