Course summary

Studying Religious Studies offers an opportunity to learn about different religions, ensuring students have a thorough understanding of diverse philosophical and ethical viewpoints. Students gain critical and evaluative skills sought by higher education and employers – particularly in law, education, social work, politics, medicine, administration and the media. Religious studies is a thought provoking subject and our contemporary themes will help you inspire engaging classroom discussion. This specification is split into 3 units of study: Philosophy of Religion, Religion and Ethics and Sikhism. Each unit of study provides students with the opportunity to develop their ability to contextualise and analyse information concerning the ultimate reality of life. The students will broaden their knowledge of the different religious beliefs and world views that they study, demonstrating that they are able to adapt to different perspectives on the philosophical and ethical questions raised. The ability to create extended essay answers, listen, present and reflect on personal beliefs are a sample of the other skills that are developed through this specification. Most importantly the students will be able to gain an insight into the multicultural society in which we live, gaining an appreciation for the vast amount of varied opinions on ultimate questions.
