Course summary
We begin by studying a depth unit, a depth unit is a unit that focuses on a condensed period in detail, for example Russia 1894– 1924. We then move onto a breadth unit. In the breadth study we focus on an extended period whilst incorporating historical themes. There is also a coursework element to this course and in the past students have studied Germany 1871–1990. You will develop skills of critical analysis and the ability to identify, deconstruct and challenge a range of historical interpretations. You will also develop detailed knowledge and understanding of modern and early modern European history. You will learn how to write with clarity, how to present a logical argument and how to reach a reasoned and sustained judgement.
