Course summary

In year 12 you will further develop skills you have learnt at GCSE in algebra, geometry and trigonometry using them to help solve problems. You will study new areas of mathematics such as coordinate geometry, series, logarithms and calculus. Your year 12 knowledge will be expanded on in year 13. Throughout the course you will be learning how to form algebraic proofs. You will study mechanics, introducing you to mathematical modelling of world problems such as projectiles of an object being thrown, and you will learn how to use mathematics including Newton’s Laws of Motion to predict what will happen. Statistics is another area of mathematics which is studied throughout the course. This includes interpreting data using measures of spread and performing statistical tests to analyse the probability of certain events.
