What do the units cover? Component 1: 40% of A Level - 2 hour 30 min paper. • Shakespeare - You will study one play in close detail, exploring Shakespeare’s use of language and dramatic effects. • Drama and Poetry pre-1900 - You will study contrasts, connections and comparisons between texts. Component 2: 40% of A Level - 2 hours 30 mins paper. • Comparative and Contextual study from a chosen topic. • Close reading (unseen) in your chosen area. Component 3: 20% of A Level - 2 essays. This is a non examined module which is marked initially by teachers and sent off for moderation. • Critical close reading OR re-creative writing piece. • Comparative essay. These allow you to pursue more detailed work in a field of particular personal interest, offering excellent preparation for study at undergraduate level.
