Course summary

Speaking a new language helps you to get to know other peoples and cultures. More than 350 million people speak Spanish as a native language and it is spoken in 22 countries over the world! Learning another language opens your mind to new ideas and new ways of looking at the world. The vitality of Spanish and Latin America’s culture is reflected through music, art, cinema and it will teach you to appreciate other cultures as well as yours. An ability to speak Spanish and English is a great advantage in the job market. Through this course, you will become more comfortable using the grammatical system and structures of the language. You will also learn to manipulate the target language accurately to organise facts and ideas, present explanations, opinions and information in both speech and writing. You will develop the ability to be creative and imaginative when communicating in speech and writing and you will learn to use appropriate registers in both of these forms of communication. You will develop the skills to use the target language spontaneously, to analyse, hypothesise, evaluate, argue a case, justify, persuade, develop arguments and present viewpoints, in speech and in writing. You will also explore aspects of the society, culture and communities where the language is used. All of the topics focus on the Spanish-speaking society and the Spanish-speaking world.
