Course summary

The main emphasis of the course is on technical and artistic development and building a photographic portfolio both for assessment and progression onto higher levels of study. This is achieved through the development of traditional and digital photographic skills and gradual development of more individual and creative ways of working. Artists and commercial photographers work, both traditional and contemporary, plays an important role in the development of coursework and encourages a broad subject knowledge and understanding. In the first year three short projects will encourage a rapid progression in skills and working methods, in the second year students will conduct a personal investigation (component 1) and an externally set exam (component 2). Through regular tutorials specialist staff provide constructive feedback and as the course develops you will gain an increasingly confident and independent approach to your studies. You are expected to develop skills in working independently both in and out of timetabled sessions. This course will provide you with experience in our A Level studio and on trips and visits, supporting and developing your ability to communicate ideas visually through artistic methods and processes.
