
English Literature is a fascinating course which allows students to read renowned, thought-provoking and transformative texts from across the English literary heritage. Across the two years of the course students will study: Tragedy Shakespeare’s King Lear Death of a Salesman by Arthur Miller Selected poetry of John Keats Social and Political Protest. The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini William Blake’s Songs of Innocence and Experience
To gain entry on to the course students should preferably attain a grade 5 in English Literature.
At the end of the course there will be two examinations: Paper 1: Tragedy —2hours 30 mins worth 40% of the A-level Paper 2: Social and Political Protest—3 hours worth 40% of the A-level. Non-examined assessment Students also complete two pieces of coursework, both 1500 words long, on a novel and a poetry collection of their choice both worth 10% of the A-level each.
