Course summary
Psychology is the scientific study of the human mind. Psychologists aim to observe and record humans and animals in order to make general laws of behaviour. A LEVEL CONTENT – Social influence – Memory – Attachment – Psychopathology – Approaches in Psychology – Research Methods – Bio-psychology – Issues and Debates – Schizophrenia – Forensics – Cognition and Development These topics provide a wide overview of psychology and allow students to understand the vast range of theories psychology has proposed: enabling students to be prepared for undergraduate level. Students will be expected to understand, analyse and evaluate psychological theories, concepts and studies into human behaviour. The course will provide fascinating discussions such as: are people pre-programmed to become criminals, how does the brain recover after trauma, what causes schizophrenia and why do people conform to authority? Students will be expected to participate in a wide range of experiments throughout the course in order to test the accuracy of psychological theories of human behaviour.
