External Assessment Paper 1 (1 hour) worth 30% A source-based paper with 5 short questions. Students study: Civil Rights in the USA 1954-65 o The role of Martin Luther King, Malcolm X and Lyndon Johnson o Events such as the Little Rock Nine and the Montgomery Bus Boycott Apartheid in South Africa 1948-64 o The role of the ANC and Mandela o Events such as the bus boycott and Sharpeville Massacre Paper 2 (1 hour 30 minutes) worth 45% Students write two essays, one on each of the following topics: Single party states o The rise of Castro in Cuba o The rise of Hitler in Germany o Hitler in power in Germany o Mao in power in China The Cold War o The breakdown of the alliances of WWII and the outbreak of the Cold War o Relations between the USA, USSR and China during the Cold War o The end of the Cold War and its causes Internal Assessment Students complete a historical investigation on a topic of their choosing. The final piece is 2000 words in length. Worth 25%.
