
The Tudors are our breadth study, 1485-1603. This includes looking at topics such as how Henry VII consolidated his position as king; the social and economic situation in England at the time and relations with Foreign Powers. It also includes fundamental changes brought about by the religious reformation at the time. The themes of Government, Religion, Rebellion and Foreign relations run through the whole period. The second key area of study is The Cold War. An in-depth look at a more recent period in World History that has had a major impact on the world we live in. Students will study the situation in Germany at the end of the Second World War and explore how The Cold War developed with the partition of Europe; the Korean war; Vietnam war and Cuban missile crisis. It also extends to the nuclear arms race and the space race.
Grade 5 or above in GCSE English Language and Literature and Grade 6 for GCSE History. This course has high demands on literacy skills so if you choose to study this course you will need to have a high grade at GCSE English Language and English Literature.
Component 1: The Tudors 1485-1603 The study of significant historical developments over a period of around 100 years and associated interpretations. Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes; three questions; 80 marks; 40% of A-level Component 2: The Cold War 1945-1991 The study in depth of a period of major historical change or development and associated primary evidence. Written exam: 2 hours 30 minutes; three questions; 80 marks; 40% of A-level Component 3: Historical investigation A personal study based on a topic of student’s choice. This should take the form of a question in the context of approximately 100 years. 3,500-4,500 words; 40 marks; 20% of A-level.
