
a level English Language is very different from GCSE as you will study new aspects of the subject including child language, tech language and journalistic writing. If you want to challenge the way you think, this is the course for you. At Huish we want to help you discover the magic of the English language and its diversity and variety. You will learn about the cultural complexities of language and it will make you think in more than one way about how language has and still is developing. After studying English Language with us, you will look at language in ways you never imagined.
As a minimum, you will need (or equivalent to); GCSE Mathematics grade 4 GCSE English Language or Literature grade 4 plus three more GCSEs at grade 4.
There are two exams (worth 80%) and coursework (worth 20%): Exam paper 1 covers language levels, topical language issues (students’ journalistic writing) and spoken and written language Exam paper 2 covers children’s speech development, media language, and language change from 1600-present day The non-examined assessment (coursework) is on any language topic of interest in negotiation with your teacher.
