Course summary

Geography is an exciting and topical subject and this is seen in the breadth of material studied in the A Level course. It looks at both physical and human geography, and links the two together. In the physical geography aspect of the course you will study water and carbon cycles, desert environments, coastal landscapes, hazards, and cold environments. The human aspect of the course examines global governance, changing places, contemporary urban environments, population and the environment. The interaction with people and the environment is studied through the human reliance on natural resources and the change caused to global ecosystems. As part of the course students plan and carry out an independent fieldwork investigation, this piece of work accounts for 25% of the final A Level grade. Fieldwork forms an essential part of the A Level and as such students will go on a number of visits over the two year course.
