Course summary

Physicists explore the fundamental nature of almost everything. They probe the furthest reaches of the universe to study both the smallest and largest structures that we know of. They work to understand and explain the patterns that underlie the behaviour and interactions of matter and energy. Join these scientists to enter a world deep beneath the surface of normal human experience. The AS Level and A Level physics course will build upon and expand the knowledge you have from GCSE. At AS Level you will learn about: particles and radiation, waves, mechanics, and electricity. Additional topics for those following the full A Level will include: nuclear physics, thermal physics, fields, and astrophysics. In common with the other sciences, your practical performance will be assessed continuously. An A Level in Physics indicates to future recruiters that you have excellent logical, problem-solving and real-world analytical skills, as well as the ability to manage your time and workload. In addition to careers in science or engineering, physicists also opt to pursue careers in medicine, computer science and the financial sector.
