and abnormal behaviours, and will be encouraged to study them from different perspectives. Learners will investigate new techniques of studying human behavior, including brain scanning, and will conduct their own research from the initial planning stages through to the final stage of analysis and evaluation. The AS components of the course will provide learners with a solid grounding in some of the basic core elements of psychology. The intention is to allow the learner, through the study of classic research, to gain an appreciation that psychology continues to develop. The exploration of five contemporary debates provides an opportunity for independent research into areas that psychology has influenced. The A2 components of the course allows learners to explore areas of psychology in greater detail, for example, the possible causes of schizophrenia. Also, learners will be introduced to the methodologies used by psychologists in working scientifically. Learners will explore the limitations of scientific research when dealing with the complexities of human behaviour.
