Course summary
Why take the course? Mathematics is the most popular A Level course in the UK. It is a gateway into a wide range of degree courses at university, such as the Sciences, Engineering and Architecture. Previous mathematics students have gone on to study Law, Economics, Finance and Computer Science. Summary of what is studied (specification) Pure Mathematics: This extends GCSE knowledge of algebra, geometry and number theory. You will also learn calculus and vectors that have a wide range of applications for future careers. Statistics: This covers numerical and graphical aspects of statistics, with an emphasis on interpreting statistical information. With data becoming more important in daily life, a good understanding of statistics is vital to understanding the world. Mechanics: This is the mathematics of moving objects and overlaps with the physics curriculum. You will learn how to apply Newton’s Laws to practical applications in the outside world. Where could this qualification take you? Mathematics is required or useful for many degree subjects. Students with Mathematics A Level go on to successful careers in many different areas.
