English Literature
Saint Cecilia's Church of England School
Course summary
Why take the course? To study literature is to study the best of what has been thought and said, while building the tools to be an independent thinker, critic and writer in your own right. Literature is a hotline to the emotions and to a sensitive appreciation of the world around us. If you like to speak your mind, if you have an impulse towards creative thought and expression, and if you have a naturally inquisitive nature, you have come to the right place! Summary of what is studied (specification) This course is spread across the three key branches of literature: Prose, Poetry and Drama. The Pearson specification allows us to study a selection of exciting, canonical texts from the Renaissance to the present day, taking in Shakespeare, modern drama and dystopian fiction. Where could this qualification take you? English Literature, an academic subject held in high regard by prestigious universities, is an excellent complement to a wide range of further education and career paths. It is perfectly suited to any career where communication or people skills are a key requirement, beyond the more obvious examples of law, the media and journalism. Although English Literature evidently works in tandem with the humanities, our course is also proven to be a creative supplement to more scientific option choices.
