A Level Classical Civilisation
Course summary
Our course is made of three component groups: World of the Hero, Culture and the Arts, and Beliefs and Ideas. For students starting next year, World of the Hero will include excerpts in translation from Homer’s Iliad or Odyssey and Virgil’s Aeneid. For Culture and the Arts, you will study the Greek Theatre component, which will include excerpts in translation from Sophocles’ Oedipus the King, Euripides’ Bacchae, and Aristophanes’ Frogs, as well as various visual and material sources. For Beliefs and Ideas, you will study the Politics of the Late Republic component, which will include excerpts in translation from Cicero’s In Verrem 1 (‘First Speech Against Verres’) and Letters.
