Sociology is the study of how society is organised and how we experience life. Sociology asks you to understand and apply key concepts such as power, gender, ethnicity and culture to important and topical issues in Education, Family, Belief and Crime & Deviance which shape the world we live in. Studying Sociology will help students to learn how to work independently, to participate in group work and to carry out research investigations. Year 12 Sociology – Internal exams Paper 1& 2 are assessed by written examination during two 120 minutes tests Questions are structured and include: short answer questions, questions based on stimulus material (e.g. research study) questions requiring extended writing (essays) A-level Sociology – (after two year course) – 3 final exams Paper 1, 2 and 3 skills are assessed during three written examinations. Each test lasts 120 minutes. The exams include structured questions and several essays. There is no coursework. Research Methods are taught practically, throughout the year, to give students a firm grasp of necessary theoretical and practical research skills.
