Course summary

The Pearson BTEC Level 3 National Health and Social Care is designed to provide innovative vocational learning for learners wanting to progress to higher education, an apprenticeship or employment in the health and social care sector. The course runs over two years. The Diploma includes eight units, three of these are externally assessed and the extended certificate is made up of four components. 50% of this qualification is externally assessed, learners will sit one exam in year 12, one exam in year 13 and one controlled assessment. Both qualifications are equivalent to A-levels. The Diploma is equivalent to two and the Extended Certificate is equivalent to one A-Level. This qualification is perfectly suited to someone who wants to work in the health and social care secto as all units will prepare learners for working in health and social care; regulations and legislations regarding the sector will be taught. The combination of mandatory content and optional units means that the qualifications in Health and Social Care can be tailored to suit all sector needs from biomedical sciences to public health, and complementary therapies.
