COMPONENT 1: PERFORMING = Students prepare a recital assessed by a visiting examiner 35% of total COMPONENT 2: COMPOSING = two compositions, one in response to a brief set by the exam board. Externally assessed, 25% of total COMPONENT 3: APPRAISING = Examination, externally assessed, 40% of total For components 1 and 2, students have the option to specialise in either performance or composition, which changes the weighting of each component (35% or 25%) – based on the length and scope of the work presented in either component. Most students choose to specialise in performance, but this is not compulsory nor need this be a unanimous decision across the cohort.
