Varieties of Film – Students analyse and compare four Hollywood and independent American films from three key periods. In addition, study two contemporary British films. Typical films for study include: Casablanca, Vertigo, Apocalypse Now, Blade Runner, Winter’s Bone, Boyhood, Inception, La La Land, Trainspotting, Shaun of the Dead, This is England, Sightseers. Global Filmmaking Perspectives – analyse and study two European or World films. In addition, study one Documentary film, one Silent Era film and one Experimental film. Typical movies for study include: Pan’s Labyrinth, Victoria, City of God, Wild Tales, Amy, Stories We Tell, The Short Films of Buster Keaton, Sunrise, Pulp Fiction, Timecode. Creative Project – This is a coursework unit where individual students create and direct a short film or screenplay that is between 4 and 5 minutes long. The film project is allocated two-thirds of the total mark available for coursework. Finally, students complete a reflective analysis of between 1250-1500 words of their short film to earn the final third of their overall coursework mark.
Grades 6 & 5 grade combination in either order from English Language and English Literature. If studied GCSE Media or related course, a Grade 6.
