Course summary

• Women are more likely to take responsibility for domestic work than men • Girls are less likely to study Science and Mathematics at A-level than boys • People from a working class background are more likely to be portrayed negatively by the media than people from a middle class background • Black people are more likely to be arrested than white people Does any of this matter? YES! For example, if girls are less likely to study Science and Mathematics, it means they’ll be excluded from lots of careers. How can we explain the above statements? Maybe it’s just natural … for example, maybe women are naturally better suited to doing housework and cooking dinner; maybe black people are naturally disposed to committing crime. Then again, maybe not... If you’re interested in understanding why the above statements (and more!) are still true in modern Britain, then A-level Sociology is definitely the course for you!
