
Music is an excellent A level choice. As a rigorous and academic A level, with a clear focus on practical and creative work, it allows for the exploration of a variety of topics and skills. A Level Music provides students with the opportunity to develop and demonstrate powers of analysis, interpretation, creativity, aural perception, performance skills, critical thinking and verbal and written expression. It equips students with the generic skills required for any university course but in addition to this, it fosters a lifelong passion for the subject!
Grade 6 or above GCSE in Music or Merit or above BTEC Level 2 in Music and Grade 5 on any instrument or voice.
Appraising Music (40%) - Pupils will study a variety of musical styles and undertake an exam including listening, analysis and essay based questions. Performing (35%) - Students will perform a selection of piece lasting a minimum of 10 minutes. Composition and Compositional Techniques (25%) - Students will complete two Bach Chorale exercises and write a free composition lasting a combined minimum duration of 4 1/2 minutes.
