Course summary

Health and Social Care at St Paul’s is a popular choice with outstanding results. COURSE CONTENT 360 GLH (Guided Learning Hours) Equivalent in size to one A Level. 4 units of which 3 are mandatory and 2 are external. Year 12 Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development The aim of this unit is to explore physical, intellectual, emotional and social development across the human lifespan, and the factors affecting development and the effects of ageing. Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs The aim of this unit is to explore the principles and practicalities that underpin meeting individuals’ care and support needs, which are the foundation of all the care disciplines. Year 13 Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care The aim of this unit is to explore what it is like to work in the health and social care sector, including the roles and responsibilities of workers and organisations. Unit 12: Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs The aim of this unit is to explore the role of health and social care services in providing care and support to individuals with additional needs. ASSESSMENT Mandatory content (83%), External assessment (58%). Unit 1: Human Lifespan Development - 11/2 hour exam (90 marks) Unit 2: Working in Health and Social Care - 11/2 hour exam (80 marks) Unit 5: Meeting Individual Care and Support Needs - Internal assessed written work. Unit 12: Supporting Individuals with Additional Needs - Internal assessed written work.
