What will I be doing? If you enjoy listening to a wide variety of different styles and genres of music and you have the desire to gain a more in depth view of the skills needed for the music technology industry, then you will find this course both challenging and enjoyable. Component 1: Recording. The examination board will provide a list of artists that you will choose to record a song by. You will be responsible for organising musicians and for carrying out the entire production process from recording to mixing and mastering. Component 2: Technology-based composition. The examination board will provide three briefs and you will select one of these to create, edit, manipulate and structure sounds to produce a technology-based composition using Logic Pro X. Component 3: Listening and analysing. This is an examination paper where students are expected to have knowledge and understanding of recording and production techniques in the context of commercial recordings, Component 4: Producing and analysing. This is an examination paper where students are expected to have knowledge and understanding of editing, mixing and production techniques. This knowledge is then applied to practical tasks using Logic Pro X. How will success help me to continue with my education or secure a good career? An A level in music technology will enable students to follow a range of music technology courses at University. Employers see music-based subjects as a subject requiring self-discipline, demonstrating skills of analysis, dexterity and commitment. It will be particularly useful if you are considering a career in sound engineering, radio and media work, recording or teaching.
Grade 5 in GCSE music and Grade 4 in GCSE additional science or Grade 4 in GCSE mathematics. Good keyboard skills would be advantageous
The course is assessed by two written examinations and a piece of coursework.
