Course summary

What will I be doing? This course will give you an extensive knowledge and understanding of the two main themes of the subject: human geography and physical geography. Human geography deals with how people and the environment interact. Physical geography is all about scientific aspects of the world’s changing environment. As well as giving you a better understanding of how mankind and the earth impact on each other. You will also study places of geographical interest. Year 1: Tectonic Processes and Hazards Coastal Landscapes and Change Globalisation Regenerating Places Year 2: The Water Cycle and Water Insecurity The Carbon Cycle and Energy Security Superpowers Global Development How will success help me to continue with my education or secure a good career? Geography is a very well regarded A level and will enable you to follow a range of courses at university. Geography has links with both the sciences and the arts and is a good preparation for jobs which involve planning and decision-making in the business and industrial world as well as for jobs which require an understanding of current affairs.

Entry requirements

Grade 6 in GCSE geography and Grade 5 in GCSE English language or literture

How you'll be assessed

The course is assessed by three written examinations: physical geography; human geography and a synoptic paper.
