What will I be doing? AQA's A level media studies specification is designed to encourage you to; • enhance your enjoyment and appreciation of the media and its role in daily life • develop critical understanding of the media through engagement with media products and concepts and through the creative application of practical skills • explore production processes, technologies and other relevant contexts • become independent in research skills with opportunities for you to apply your knowledge to your practical work and in developing your own views and interpretations In year one you will investigate the media in order to understand and evaluate how meanings and responses are created. The contemporary media landscape and its changing contexts are studied in terms of products, platforms and technologies. In year two you are encouraged to demonstrate, develop and formulate your understanding of the media and its influential role in today's society as well as debating major contemporary media issues. This course includes the exploration of the key concepts and ideas through the study of 18 set media texts including print advertisements, TV programmes, radio and newspapers. All texts are accompanied by the study and application of high level academic theory. How will success help me to continue with my education or secure a good job? This qualification will allow you to follow a wide range of courses at university, both theoretical and practical in nature. If you chose to embark on a media career and enter employment in that field, the practical experience you will have gained and your knowledge and familiarity with real world production strategies will be highly valued by employers.
Grade 5 in GCSE English language or literature or grade B in GCSE media studies (if taken)
This course is assessed two written examinations and an advanced production portfolio.
