Government and Politics will appeal to students who have a genuine interest in current affairs, combined with an ability to analyse and evaluate questions logically, using relevant supporting evidence. Students will examine the following major topics during the course: • Main features of the UK democratic system – elections, referenda, political parties, pressure groups, parliament, prime minister, cabinet, judiciary; A study of voting behaviour and the role of the media in the political process; Ideas and policies associated with ideologies of conservatism, socialism and liberalism; • Impact of the development of the European Union; involving a study of US Government and Politics or Global Politics.
